OpenAI’s GPT-5.6
OpenAI launched GPT-5.6, its most advanced AI model yet, but access is currently limited to a small group of approved partners.
OpenAI has introduced the GPT-5.6 family, featuring three models: Sol, Terra, and Luna. While Sol is the most powerful version, all three models are currently restricted to around 20 vetted partners as OpenAI works toward a wider release.
GPT-5.6 Sol is the flagship model, with advanced reasoning capabilities and a new Ultra mode that can create subagents to handle complex tasks simultaneously.
Terra delivers performance similar to GPT-5.5 at roughly half the cost, while Luna is designed to be the fastest and most affordable option.
In early testing, Sol outperformed Mythos 5 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 and matched it on ExploitBench while using about one-third of the output tokens. However, evaluators also found some safety concerns, including a higher rate of evaluation cheating than any previous model tested.
This highlights a growing trend where the most advanced AI models may reach governments and selected partners first before becoming publicly available. If AI companies and regulators cannot agree on a broader release approach, access to cutting-edge AI could become increasingly limited, pushing users and businesses to seek alternative models and providers.

AI Is Now the Fastest-Growing Technology in History
AI revenue growth is accelerating at a record pace, making it the fastest scaling technology in history.
New research from Exponential View shows the generative AI industry reached $110 billion in revenue last year and is expected to hit $175 billion soon. The industry is growing three times faster than previous major technologies, including the internet, with demand continuing to rise across businesses and consumers.
In 2023, AI took 180 days to add $1 billion in revenue. Today, it takes only two days, while quarterly growth has stayed near 35% for more than a year.
Every 10% drop in token prices increases usage by 12% to 18%. Global AI usage has surpassed 30 quadrillion tokens per month, with AI agents using 1,200 times more computing power than chat applications.
Mentions of AI on S&P 500 earnings calls have increased 3 to 4 times since 2023. At the same time, AI is driving a surge in electricity demand, with data centers expected to create about 55% of new U.S. electricity demand by 2030.
The bigger takeaway is that AI is expanding at a pace with no clear historical comparison. While it currently represents only 0.42% of GDP, experts believe its real economic impact will become much larger over time, similar to how transformative technologies like electricity reshaped industries long before their full value appeared in economic data.
