OpenAI has released Prism, a new free research and writing tool that brings its most advanced reasoning model directly into scientific work, from early notes to final papers.
Prism was built after OpenAI bought Crixet and rebuilt it using the GPT 5.2 reasoning model
Researchers can search papers, auto-add citations, and turn whiteboard photos into clean equations without leaving the page
The tool is free, with no limits on team size or number of projects, which is rare in academic software
This could help fix a growing problem in research. Many journals are flooded with weak papers full of fake citations and simple mistakes. OpenAI believes the issue is not AI itself, but how it is used.
