This New Scanner Claims MRI-Level Detail in Just One Minute
Midjourney is expanding beyond AI images with a new full body scanner that uses underwater ultrasound technology to create detailed body scans in just 60 seconds.
Midjourney has revealed the Midjourney Scanner, a new health device designed to perform a full body scan in only one minute. The company plans to install these scanners in its own wellness spas, with the first location expected to open in San Francisco in 2027.
The scanner lowers users into water and uses a ring of ultrasound sensors to capture detailed images of the entire body in about 60 seconds.
Midjourney founder David Holz says the scanner can deliver detail similar to an MRI, while taking much less time. The device was developed with ultrasound chip maker Butterfly Network.
The first Midjourney Spa is set to open in 2027 and will feature around 10 scanners, along with saunas, cold plunges, and hot tubs.
This could be a major step toward making advanced health screening faster and more accessible. While the technology still needs to prove itself, the idea of combining a wellness spa visit with a detailed body scan feels like something from the future.

OpenAI has hired AI pioneer Noam Shazeer from Google, adding one of the key minds behind modern AI models to its team.
OpenAI has brought Noam Shazeer on board from Google in a major talent move. Shazeer helped create the transformer architecture, the technology behind today's leading AI chatbots, and most recently served as a co-lead of Google's Gemini project.
Shazeer joined Google in 2000 and co-authored the influential "Attention Is All You Need" paper in 2017, which introduced the transformer model used across modern AI systems.
Google reportedly spent $2.7 billion in 2024 to bring Shazeer back from Character.AI, the startup he founded after Google passed on his early chatbot ideas.
As a VP and co-lead of Gemini, Shazeer played a key role in helping Google's AI models become more competitive with ChatGPT.
This highlights how valuable top AI talent has become. While the AI hiring race has been less dramatic recently, moves like this show that leading researchers continue to gravitate toward OpenAI and Anthropic, making talent one of the biggest advantages in the AI industry today.
