Meta Is Tracking Employees to Train AI

Meta is tracking employee activity to train AI, causing internal backlash.
Meta has started a program called Model Capability Initiative (MCI) that records screenshots, keystrokes, and mouse activity on work laptops of U.S. employees. There is no opt-out, and the goal is to collect real work data to improve its AI systems.
The program focuses mostly on developers, tracking tools like VSCode, internal AI assistant Metamate, Google Chat, and Gmail
Around 8,000 employees who are leaving the company will have their work activity logged in their final month
Leadership says this helps AI models improve by learning from employeesβ daily tasks
This shows how far companies may go to train AI using real human behavior. Using employee data without choice, especially during layoffs, raises serious concerns about privacy, trust, and workplace ethics
