DAILY UPDATE

Elon Musk’s Biggest AI Surprise Yet

Anthropic and SpaceX just teamed up in a major AI compute deal, boosting Claude’s power and marking a surprising shift in Musk’s relationship with the company.

Anthropic signed a deal with SpaceX to fully lease the massive Colossus 1 AI supercluster in Memphis. The move will greatly increase computing power for Claude, allowing Anthropic to raise usage limits and remove peak-hour restrictions for users.

  • Anthropic will use the full 300+ MW Colossus 1 cluster, with over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs expected to come online soon.

  • Claude Code users on paid plans will now get double the previous 5 hour usage caps, along with more API capacity and no peak-time limits.

  • Reports also say Anthropic is preparing a huge $200B compute agreement with Google Cloud over the next five years.

This shows how fast the AI race is changing. Musk now appears willing to support companies competing against OpenAI if they align with his vision for AI safety. At the same time, SpaceX is becoming a major compute provider for top AI labs while still developing Grok as its own frontier AI model.

TODAY’s HIGHLIGHT

Google DeepMind Is Training AI Inside a 20-Year-Old Space Game

Google DeepMind invested in EVE Online creator Fenris Creations to use the long running space game as a testing ground for advanced AI agents.

Google DeepMind has taken a minority stake in Fenris Creations, a studio spun out from EVE Online creator CCP Games. The goal is to use the massive online universe of EVE Online to train and study AI systems in a more realistic and unpredictable environment.

  • EVE Online has been running for over 20 years on a single server where players build corporations, control markets, and fight huge space wars worth real money.

  • DeepMind will test AI agents inside an offline version of the game to study how AI can remember, plan long term, and adapt inside complex systems.

  • DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said games have always helped train AI, pointing to projects like AlphaGo, AlphaStar, and Atari learning systems.

This move shows how AI research is shifting beyond simple game winning. Instead, companies now want AI that can operate inside living, changing worlds that behave more like real life. With its player driven economy and unpredictable social systems, EVE Online gives DeepMind a rare environment to test how future AI agents may handle complex human-like systems.
