DAILY UPDATE

Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 4.6, a cheaper model that rivals its top system while offering a huge 1M token context window.

Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 4.6, a new mid-level AI model that performs almost as well as its top model, Opus 4.6, but costs only one fifth as much.

  • On the SWE-Bench Verified coding test, Sonnet 4.6 scored 79.6%, just below Opus 4.6 at 80.8%, while being far cheaper to run.

  • Sonnet 4.6 beat Opus 4.6 on agentic financial analysis and office task benchmarks, marking the first time a mid-level Claude model has outperformed the flagship in these areas.

  • In early testing of Claude Code, users preferred Sonnet 4.6 over the older version 70% of the time. It also beat Opus 4.5 in user preference at a 59% rate.

By offering near flagship performance at a much lower cost, the company is aiming to compete more strongly in the growing AI agent market, where price and scale matter more than ever.

TODAY’S HIGHLIGHT

Figma connects Claude Code to its canvas, turning live AI built interfaces into editable design files.

Figma has launched a new feature called Code to Canvas with Anthropic, allowing developers to take interfaces built in Claude Code and instantly turn them into fully editable files inside Figma.

  • The tool captures live UI from a browser and converts it into native Figma layers that can be duplicated, edited, annotated, or rearranged.

  • Figma’s MCP server lets developers send updated designs back into their coding tools, keeping everything in sync without losing context.

  • Teams can capture full multi step user flows at once, preserving the entire user journey so everyone can review and improve it together.

This comes as Figma’s stock has dropped about 85% from last summer’s high, during a wider SaaS market decline driven by growing AI coding tools. These tools now make it very easy to build working interfaces.
